No problem! This is where scanwerk comes in handy, due to our interconnected metadata workflow called „Base-Light-Grade“ (BLG). The unique BLG workflow allows the editor and colorist to work simultaneously, which gives you the opportunity to make highly flexible creative decisions, which saves a lot of time and budget. Filmlight’s Baselight is a color grading system for non-linear complex grading dealing with all input and output resolutions and formats up to 8K. The Blackboard 2 is the latest hardware control surface that allows the user to optimally use the features of the non-linear color grading and finishing system by meeting the standards for its intended purposes: offering an intuitive and ergonomic toolset for the artist. Operational speed means more time for creativity at the end. Baselight allows integrated workflows for Flame, Nuke and Avid Media Composer, and the possibility for advanced compositing. This color grading software provides all the advantages that modern color grading and data management needs. A modern post-production tool with a total solution for file-based workflows.
Our grading suites are connected in order to share and work together on projects. One additional Flame and one Flare workstation make your data grading experience even faster. Maybe more grading options than necessary ;). We are very happy to say that we are connected to numerous freelancers in all postproduction fields. Scanwerk invites you to experience color grading under the finest conditions: state of the art equipment, 50 square meters of working area with comfortable seating accommodation and a 55″ OLED screen for your viewing pleasure, as well as a Sony HX310 class A reference monitor capable of HD/UHD in SDR and HDR, and a second grading suite fully equipped with a Sony BVM-E250A class A reference monitor and a 55″ OLED client screen. The center and meeting point of our spacious premises, of course, is the Fiorenzato coffee maker, ready to brew your elixir of life.
Film restoration is also part of the performance spectrum of scanwerk. Restoration does not only mean to repair film material, but also to reawaken the look, therefore combining the zeitgeist of a past era and intentions with new aspects of quality. Scanwerk has made restorations for Wim Wenders, John Woo, the Fassbinder Foundation, Til Schweiger and many more. It is primarily about digitalisation and the construction of high-quality masters for broadcasting or streaming and DVD/BluRay utilisation in 4K. Film restoration is a comprehensive process that requires a superior degree of attention to details. Material is closely inspected for any imperfections such as perforations, scratches, rips, wrinkles etc., which are then digitally processed and corrected to produce the best possible output. Specific filters shall be employed based on particular scenes to retain detailed information.
“The heart of your DI” is also known as the jack-of-all-trades device in our house. We use Clipster for transcoding, rendering, decoding and encoding of all codecs and formats. In the broadcast and post production industries, it is known worldwide as the most reputable hardware managing encoding procedures, that allows you to scan from 16mm and 35mm material in HD, 2K and 4K resolutions. Digital Cinema Package: Scanwerk produces the digital distribution copy in MXF on the basis of parameters given by the cinema or TV broadcaster and the delivered digital data. We create stereoscopic Digital Cinema Packages (DCP) with the latest generation of Clipster, which is considered as the hardware gold standard for managing encoding procedures. In Hollywood, by the way, only hardware encoding procedures are accepted.
